Dr. Leong Hoe Nam, Singapore

Dr. Leong Hoe Nam is an Infectious Diseases Physician. He graduated from NUS in 1996 and obtained his MRCP and M Med in 2001. Thereafter, he began his advanced specialist training in infectious diseases. Dr Leong further pursued his interest in virology at the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London under a fellowship awarded by the National Medical Research Council. In 2008 he was awarded a second research fellowship to train at the University of Columbia, New York, on emerging pathogens.

Dr. Leong was previously a consultant in the Department of Infectious Disease in SGH. Having left Singapore General Hospital, he continued his practice in Infectious Diseases at the private Raffles Hospital before setting up his own clinic at Mount Elizabeth Hospital at Novena. He has been directly involved in the care of transplant patients, individuals with multi-drug resistant organisms, tuberculosis, HIV, AIDS, surgical complications, viral infections, fungal infections including aspergillosis, cryptococcosis and mucormycosis, and complex medical problems. He had first-hand experience in managing outbreak situations including SARS and H1N1 pandemic infection. He has also published several research papers on virology.

Dr. Leong has been frequently interviewed by live tv, radio presenters and various print journalists. He is frequently sought for an opinion on various infectious diseases (see newsroom).

Dr. Leong was a clinical tutor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He was a faculty member at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and still maintains his adjunct position as assistant professor while working at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. He remains a visiting consultant at the Singapore General Hospital, the National Cancer Centre Singapore, and the Dover Park Hospice Hospital.

Title Managing Multidrug Resistant Organism (MDRO) Infections: From clinical research to clinical practice

Synopsis The first part of the symposium discusses evidence for using a set of reproducible clinical criteria to shorten antibiotic duration for individualised treatment duration of VAP, as well as to discuss the effect of rapid diagnostics and early impact antibiotics on patients with hospital-acquired bloodstream infection or ventilator-associated pneumonia.

The latter half of the symposium will focus on a real case-study illustrating the challenges commonly faced by physicians and how these were managed with the appropriate use of antibiotics.

Dr. Mo Yin, Singapore

Dr. Mo Yin is a highly motivated Infectious Diseases physician driven by the ideal of using quality clinical research to influence patient care and propel health policies. She has been active in epidemiological and clinical research, medical education, as well as hospital administration. She has received numerous awards for her achievements in clinical care, research and teaching. Dr Mo Yin’s career goal is to serve her community focusing on translational research to influence regional and global policies.

Dr. Lee Tau Hong, Singapore

Dr. Lee Tau Hong is an infectious disease physician practicing at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Farrer Park Hospital Singapore. He graduated from National University of Singapore in 2005 with his primary medical qualification. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians from the United Kingdom since 2010 and an accredited infectious disease specialist since December 2014. Prior to moving to private practice, he was the Head of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. In addition, he was a Senior Consultant at Department of Infectious Diseases and the Head of Antimicrobial Resistance Coordinating Office (AMRCO) in National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

His clinical interests include antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship, HIV medicine and traveller’s health. He received his Certificate of Knowledge from International Society of Travel Medicine in 2014 and was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan funding in 2016 to further study his interest in HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection in Mortimer Market Centre, London.
