Professor Paterson is Director at The University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research. He is also a Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (Australia’s largest hospital and ranked in the top 100 hospitals of the world). He is Australia’s most cited Infectious Diseases Physician and is the country’s highest cited researcher in the field of Microbiology. He has been in the ISI Thomson Reuters Highly Cited List annually from 2015 to 2019.He received his medical degree and PhD from The University of Queensland. His research focuses on the molecular and clinical epidemiology of infections with antibiotic resistant organisms, with the intent of translation of knowledge into optimal prevention and treatment of these infections. He now has added clinical trials to his research portfolio and has recently conducted the world’s largest trial on antibiotics for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing bacterial infections (the “MERINO trial”). Professor Paterson has received research funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Australia’s National Health and Medical and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Medical Research Future Fund. In 2007, Professor Paterson returned to Brisbane after ten years at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. A 2008 Frank Fenner Award for Advanced Research in Infectious Diseases by the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) quickly followed and in 2009 he was awarded a Queensland Health Senior Clinical Research Fellowship and subsequently 2 NHMRC Practitioner Fellowships. He is now an NHMRC Investigator Grant holder.

Dr Asok Kurup is an Infectious Disease Physician at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore, and Visiting Consultant at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Singapore General Hospital. He is the current Chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce Committee Parkway Pantai Hospitals. Dr Kurup is the current Chairman of the Chapter of Infectious Disease Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and has been a committee member of the Society of Infectious Disease (Singapore) since 2012. His research interests include community and nosocomial infections and HIV.

Dr Ng is a senior consultant and Head of the Department of Haematology, Singapore General Hospital. He is a Clinical Professor with the Duke–National University of Singapore School of Medicine, and clinical lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.Dr Ng’s research interests and publications focus on various aspects of thrombosis and haemostasis, and include investigating the optimization of treatment, monitoring and prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic diseases, as well as therapeutic intervention for bleeding disorders. He also has an interest in patient safety and is the Director of Patient Safety, Singapore General Hospital.

The primary field of Dr Naidu’s expertise was psychiatry, wherein he spent six years working in Hospital Permai Johor Bahru. In addition to his medical degree, Dr Naidu also completed his postgraduate studies in 2017, obtaining a Masters in Global Health at Trinity College Dublin.

Dr Alex Soriano is a Consultant of Infectious Diseases in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Clinical and Provincial Hospital of Barcelona, Spain, since 2001. He studied medicine at the University of Barcelona and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Clinical and Provincial Hospital of Barcelona from January 1991 to December 1996. Dr Soriano also obtained a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 2006.Dr Soriano’s main research interest is in severe infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of foreign-body infections, with particular interest in prosthetic joint infections. He has also authored several book chapters and over 300 peer-reviewed publications and is currently the Vice President of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS) and Co-editor in Chief of Infectious Diseases and Therapy.
