\nThe Eugene Goh Award<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nThe Eugene Goh Award is awarded to the top abstract at APICS. The Eugene Goh Award was founded and sponsored by Dr Eugene Goh\u2019s friends and colleagues since 2017.<\/p>\n
Dr Goh graduated from the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Medicine (Class of 1997). He qualified as an Anesthesiologist and further completed sub-specialty training in Intensive Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic, United States of America. He was deeply committed to improving the care of patients in the National University Hospital of Singapore where he served as Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.<\/p>\n
Dr Goh was an affable person, and well known for his extensive knowledge, strategic thinking, technical skills, and willingness to help others. He was in the top 1% of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and consistently received the highest praise from his patients, supervisors, and peers. He lived life to the fullest \u2013 he was a sportsman, loved traveling, motorsport, and gastronomy. He passed away on 8 September 2012.<\/p>\n
In memory of his passion for Intensive Care Medicine, the Eugene Goh Award for Best Abstract was set up to stimulate research and advancement in this field.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Since 2024, the APICS Education Initiative was established to support authors from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and low-income countries (LICs). The initiative offers funding to eligible abstract authors that showcase diverse research and perspectives.<\/p>\n

In Memory of Dr Shekhar Dhanvijay<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\nThe Shekhar Dhanvijay Award is awarded to the best presentation among the authors from Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and Low-Income Countries (LICs) at APICS. The award is sponsored by Dr Shekhar\u2019s friends and colleagues.<\/p>\n
Originally from India, Dr Shekhar received his intensivist training in Australia, a journey that shaped his approach to medicine, one that was rooted in expertise, kindness, humility, and a deep sense of duty to his patients and colleagues.<\/p>\n
Dr Shekhar joined Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in Singapore in 2015. In his role as Clinical Director, he played a pivotal role in the development of the ICU\u2019s education programme. He was a passionate teacher, a mentor, and an inspiration to countless junior doctors, many of whom were touched by his calm demeanour, infectious enthusiasm for teaching, and his unwavering commitment to excellence. His impact extended far beyond Singapore, contributing to the education of intensivists across Southeast Asia, as well as in Australia and New Zealand. He was also appointed to the examination panel for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (Australia and New Zealand).<\/p>\n
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr Shekhar was a loving husband and father, deeply dedicated to his family. His commitment to his family was matched only by his passion for health and fitness, a pursuit he took on in order to stay fit and live a full, active life for his wife and children.<\/p>\n
Dr Shekhar\u2019s legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and excellence, qualities that he embodied both in and out of the ICU. His leadership, both in clinical care and in education, will be remembered with deep gratitude.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
